Thursday Workouts

Just got back from the bike drills workout. All in all not my best effort. I think I could have gone harder on the way back and probably during the intervals. Have to try and work on that. Also need to figure out why the watch didn't work for the cooldown periods.

So I think I'm back... maybe

Ok so lets see last time I posted was in July and a lot has happened since then. I went to Prague for ROTC had an awesome time. Started my final semester of college woohoo (/cry). Actively from before I left for Prague until the last 3 weeks or so I was letting my training slip, and my slip I mean push down 28 flights of stairs while spraying it with lighter fluid and throwing a match on it. Yeah I was feeling great! Dan introduced me to a half marathon training plan (here is the plan). That has really been motivating to follow a a plan that I can see all the way through and it has been awesome to have a training partner of similar abilities, it really helps pull you through some runs. I have started a century training plan for the bike as well just this week and so far I like it, just need to find some more bike routes. Health wise I'm doing relatively good. In a mad effort to find out what a rule was in a card game, don't ask, I rolled and hit the coach. It really bruised my knee, running it seems fine but day to day sometimes it feels really tense. I'm not too worried about it but it does get a bit more sore when I bike. I am going to start lifting as well, very light and on a functional basis not just to see if I can bench press a VW Bug.

In other news I found the girl of my dreams. We met the first day of classes this semester ironically enough by me looking at the TriCats webpage (who I am no longer training with due to what I see as perceived shift from a team to a club and too much of a social aspect). We immediately clicked, and it has only gotten better since than. She is funny, smarter (way smarter than me), driven, and supportive. Best of all she is/was a triathlete so she understands those early training days, and the fact that being active is just a part of me. I have no idea by what cosmic accident we met and started talking but I am so extremely happy it happened every day.

Drats Foiled again!

Last night a huge monsoon storm rolled across town so running the river path, my 1st choice was out, so ok fine I'll go to the base and use the damn dreadmill. Roll up to the gym and all the lights were out, damn! After that I just couldn't get up the motivation to wake up super early this morning to get that run in, so it will have to be tonight provided the same thing doesn't happen. Ugh I hate my job! It is slowly eating away at my soul to much longer there and I'll just be a mindless corporate zombie obedient to my overlords and with a strange hankering for brains.

Back for good I hope

I do still exist!

Ok long time no post, and my apologies for that. Went on an awesome vacation to Hawaii got hooked on SCUBA (its just about as good as sex no joke). Got super motivated to train harder and better this season not being able to race at the race I wanted to. Been in the pool quite a bit not really keeping track too much but I'd say last week I put in 8-10k meters. More to come... maybe =D

Yeah I'm still here

Yeah i'm still here and still training. Just haven't been updating this blog as much as I'd like. I'll post more tonight I swear!

Sabino Death Run

Ok its been to long since my last post. I have been pretty good about my workouts but due to leaving my HRM strap at Dan's I haven't recorded much new data. Today we ran the Sabino canyon road for our long slow(er) run for the week. Woah simply woah what a road this thing is. It starts off nice you climb one hill then you start up the path to your total destruction. It begins pretty nice and easy with a very mild grade, you cross a few dams that have water flowing over the top (btw wet shows while they may actually only way a little bit more feel like anchors) but then it just keeps going on and on, and getting steeper and steeper. The final mile is just brutal with a grade of nearly 20% this is no joke. The return trip was as easy as the out trip was hard. If your wearing a nice wicking shirt like we were get it wet in the stream crossing and really cool yourself off it was great. Got back and much to my surprise found my pace much faster then expected and a lower avg HR then I expected way to go me! I'm glad Dan was out there with me as I might have been tempted to walk at a couple of spots otherwise. Going swimming this afternoon, tomorrow is yoga in the morning then a core workout after the tricats meeting, so pretty tame.

Ouch

Ok so finally got back on track with my training after a long.... long.... long absence/neglect. Did a long hard hour and a half on the trainer on the mall with the Tricats. Good times bad legs.

It's always something

Grrrr just when I'm getting my sinuses back under control I go and pull my groin muscle this morning at PT, and dang it hurts! So hopefully some R&R this weekend and I can get back into training next week....please?

I did it!!!!!!

Col Abbott told me yesterday that I was officially going to become an Air Force navigator woohoo. I'm super excited, still holding out hope that I may get bumped to pilot but nav is great to. Thank you air force!

Hurray it Allergies?!?!

ok so im 99.9% sure what ever this is its just allergies which is good because that means I can start training here sooner then If I was actually coming off a cold. So hopefully tomorrow I'll be back at it in force. In the meantime I have a nasty paper to write as an old friend said ttfn.

Competing with the Girl Scouts

So today at the car wash we set up at a local walmart (sucky location btw). After having a fight over the hose we finally set up. We set up a little baked goods things at the front with the car wash at the back. Well how decides they too want to sell their goods in front of Walmart? the friggin girl scouts! You have reached a new low when you are trying to compete with 8 year old girls for customers. Oh well.

Sick or Allergies?

Talked with my dad today and now I'm not sure if I'm actually sick or just having some nasty allergies. Well treating both so we'll see how this goes.

Sick....boo....hiss

So unfortunately I defiantly am sick so I will taking time off training to try and kill this thing quick. We'll see how this goes.

Back Around

Been super busy as usual, but have have some cool updates. First off went up on my first f-16 flight.... at night!!!!! It was the coolest thing I have ever done hands down. Yeah ok so I did puke twice but it was awesome none the less. The other really awesome thing is Rudy Project has deemed me worth of a sponsorship so go to your local dealer and buy a pair of sunglasses! In terms of training just been treading water so to speak, not really progressing but hopefully not loosing anything either. Think I may be getting sick a little bit woke up this morning with a wicked soar throat, so been trying the alternative medicine approach to healing, lots of herbs and such. If I'm not feeling better somewhat quickly I'll switch to the more modern approach, atom bombs for ants as they say. So training plan for now is just kinda of going to be played by ear, especially if I'm not feeling well.

Update

Ok so yeah I kind of disappeared for a while my bad. Anyways just been kind of doing the mins lately as school is really ramping up. In other news I'll be doing the best form of cross training available...... F-16 Incentive rides!!!!! I'm so absolutely amazed and looking forward to this many, many, many pictures will be coming. Look for an updated schedule sometime later today.

This Post it Brought to you by Nuun!

Hurray got my very first sponsor ever! Who would have thought that the fat kid in elementary school who couldn't run a single lap around the track would be in decent enough shape to earn a sports sponsor! Thanks Nuun!

Hurray Rest Week!

Due to being gone from Thursday to Monday I'm reordering a couple of weeks and moving up my rest week to this week since there is so no way I'll get any real training done over the weekend, just lots and lots of snowboarding. Carve on!

Your results may vary...

link

Did my oracle rd ride again and this time attacked it a bit differently. The main difference was that instead of constantly trying to push my HR to say 2.8 or 2.8 when I hit the flatter or downhill stuff I would generally just let it chill out at say 2.2 or 2.4. The idea was that last time I hit my wall on the way back wasn't able to take advantage of the generally downhill course the way home, so this time buy not pushing so hard up front I would have more left in the tank for the way back. It worked too!! I was pretty fresh most of the way back and was even able to lead a little group from steam pump village all the way to 1st. Now maybe I was just in better shape, or maybe I was able to use better nutrition but this defiantly was the better way to do this. Also damn wind sucks! I had no more turned off onto the bio sphere road then the wind just started to howl and didn't let up tell Catalina. Shit that was demotivating and slow. Oh well. Overall I'm quite pleased with my results.

Ok so a slight change of plans

Ok first off here is the data from today's bike link

What really makes me happy about this bike ride is that I cut at least 6 minutes off my previous best Campbell to freeway to craycroft to campbell time, or increased my pace my about 2mph. I was pretty tired at the end but it was defiantly worth it.

The other change of plan is that I will be running tonight instead of swimming (to make up from yesterday) and move tonights swim to tomorrow.

Update ok here is tonight's run link went really well I think.

Flexibility is the key to Airp.... I mean triathlon training

Ok so this morning 15 odd minutes before my alarm to get up goes off I get a text from a friend in ROTC, saying that PT this morning got moved in doors. What that means is one of two things 99% of the time 1) it's raining/snowing/etc... 2) its reallllllly cold out. With my hodgepodge collection of cycling gear I can handle cooler weather and the Arizona summers but when its gets cold or wet I'm woefully under equipped. So I decided that since I had the late run last night and was just super tired that this was just a good day to sleep in. So I did. I'm moving my cycling workout to Friday after a meeting I have. It will mean two back to back riding days but that shouldn't be anything to bad. I'll just use this extra time to catch up on school.

Nice Run

Just got done with a really nice run at Reid Park. While it felt (and was) slow it also felt fluid is the best term I can come up with. Everyone was just going along really nicely no aches or pains just a nice easy run.

Link

The only thing that made me mad tonight was the fact that something is up with the SC's electric. Driving tonight I discovered that I could either use my headlights or have the cabin illuminated (such things as speedometer or radio backlights were totally out), also the tail (not brake thank goodness) lights are patchy. So I'm going to call the body shop tomorrow and see when they can take it back in to fix it since it wasn't doing this before they took it all apart.

"A" Mountain my way.

Did my "A" (aka Sentinel Peak) Mountain repeats today. Ride went well, used the B2. Was able to stay at least in the saddle the entire time if not aero. Speaking of that saddle felt significantly better then it did the last time I rode that bike so hopefully everything has adjusted it. Did 3 repeats up the peak in the small gear up front and the 2nd from the left on the back.

Link

edit: one thing I noticed that my heart rate was harder to manage (in this case keep lower) while in aero compared to even being in the drops on my road bike

Ok just got done with the TriCats swim, and damn that takes it out of me. Oh well.

In other news I'm really struggling on whether or not I should go to NATCON. I both want to and don't want to. I do because it's a pretty unique experience in a city I've never been too. I don't because I don't really have the cash nor do I want to break up my training schedule. Have a while to think about it so we'll see.

Death via River Path Running

I never should have stopped running pure and simple. Runs that used to be cake are challenging. Today is a good example of that there is a sample fun from when I was running with dan we covered 7.03mi in 1:10, today I covered 8.66 in 1:30. To top it all off my average HR was lower that first time! ugh!!!!! Oh well hopefully If I just stay with it my form, and HR will all fall back into place.....please.... My only excuse was that it was raining today, so that's it.... of course that must be it.

For todays run link

Swim today went great, set a season PR for the 1000m at 21m 46s. While slower then last season still not too bad.

BioSphere 2 Pain!

Did a long ride out to Bio Sphere/Oracle today. Man that hurt, good hurt... i think but hurt non the less. Aprox 60mi in 3:45 not too bad but I really need to cut that down for Honu.

Swim

Ok went for another swim lasted 50 minutes this time, mostly due to time constraints could have gone the last 10 minutes. Felt good, but at the same time I am keenly aware of the fact that I seem to have lost what little of a stroke I did have.

My poor arms!

While PT this morning was a good workout it defiantly killed my arms. Leading the body builder/push-up station for 40 minutes just kills. Oh well hopefully it will just make me stronger!

Dizzy, I'm so dizzy

Long track run. Minor pains nothing too bad.

Training Update

Ok so since its been a bit since I last posted I have actually been maintaining my training plan... sort of. My run scheduled for Tuesday link only went for 35 odd minutes. Mostly due to my legs being babies after taking this long of a break.

Yesterday I cut my bike workout short my about 30 minutes so that I could meet up with my dad, I plan to add this time to my long bike ride coming Saturday.

link

Shoulder has been handling everything pretty good. I have been doing pull ups and chin ups which might be helping. ROTC PT has started up and so far I have been able to handle it in stride but I am defiantly going to be doing sit ups and push ups every night to make sure I can max it out.

Back at it....again

Ok so first training day of the new year is defiantly a good one so far. Went out on a just a nice short/medium bike ride with the target HR zone of 2 which went perfectly.

Link

First swim after my shoulder got hurt tonight so have to see how that goes.

::Update:: swim went ok. Shoulder hurt a little during the workout so called it early at 45 min. Have to see how it feels tomorrow and then for the swim again on Wednesday.
